The reaction of 8-hydroxyquinoline I with epichlorohydrin in the presence of potassium carbonate yielded a mixture of the epoxide II and the chlorohydrin III. The reaction of certain amines with a mixture of II and III afforded 8-[2-hydroxy-3-(substitutedamino) propoxy] quinoline IVa-h. The structure of the synthesized compounds was established by microanalyses and 1H-NMR spectra. The hydrolytic rate constants in aqueous solution at pH 7 and pH 12 were determined using HPLC technique.
